Documentary and Narrative Research
Fall 2017

The state of Oklahoma, and before 1907 the Indian and Oklahoma territories, has a long rich history of education and schools. From the creation of Freedmen schools across tribal communities, development of normal and manual labor schools for women, to legal battles surrounding education and schooling across the territory, there is much history still needing to be told. This project developed by students in the Fall 2017 Documentary and Narrative Research (EDS 6973), under the guidance of Dr. Mirelsie Velazquez and Dr. John Stewart, worked to gather archival materials to begin telling these stories.
